I want to ask, but know I can’t,

Why did you wait so long?

Now time is short, and days are few,

Your life is almost gone.

This question that I yearn to pose,

In this so weary land,

I ponder it within my heart,

And try to understand.

God’s Holy Spirit, came to me,

Within my heart to dwell,

I read God’s word, and knew there was,

A heaven and a hell.

You’ve heard the Gospel, many times,

Seems nothing I could do,

Persuaded you, the Bible is,

God’s word, completely true.

These days you barely understand,

You hear not as before,

My heart does break, why did you wait,

Till almost at death’s door?

Salvation at the end of life,

No doubt there are a few.

God’s gracious love, still calls to those,

Who many times refused.

But when the day of death arrives,

And you are called afar.

When all is done, will I be left,

Just wondering where you are?

I know there’s hope, while life exists,

But still my heart weeps sore.

My heart does break, why did you wait,

Till almost at death’s door?
